The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a red alert in these areas for January 1. ‘Cold Day’ in Amritsar, Fatehgarh Sahib, Gurdaspur, Hoshiarpur, Jalandhar, Kapurthala, Ludhiana, Pathankot, Patiala, Rupnagar and Tarn Taran districts of Punjab. The conditions are going to be dense and foggy. 

‘Cold Day’ That situation is called when the minimum temperature remains less than 10 degrees Celsius for two consecutive days. Orange alert has been issued for Rajasthan, Bihar, Madhya Pradesh and Uttar Pradesh on January 1. The alert has been issued by the Meteorological Department because dense fog and bone-chilling cold is going to occur in these states. The oppression of winter is already continuing in these states, but people are not going to get relief in the coming days.

Fog is going to wreak havoc

IMD said, ‘Dense fog to very dense fog conditions are going to prevail in some parts of Uttar Pradesh from the night of December 31, 2023 to the morning of January 2, 2024. During this period visibility may be less than 50 meters. Fog will be seen in some other parts of the state also for the next 2-3 days.’ With the new year, the temperature will fall in Punjab, Delhi, Rajasthan, Bihar, Madhya Pradesh and Uttar Pradesh, due to which there will be severe cold. 

The Meteorological Department has said that there is every possibility of the temperature falling in the first week of January 2024. Because of this the temperature is going to be between 9 to 6 degrees Celsius. According to IMD, very dense fog occurs when visibility is between 0 to 50 meters. Dense fog occurs when visibility is between 51 and 200 meters. Moderate fog occurs between 201 and 500 meters. There is light fog during 1000 meter visibility. 

There will be a drop in temperature

People are facing a lot of problems due to dense fog and decreasing visibility. Maximum temperatures are likely to drop by 2-3 degrees Celsius over many parts of central and northwest India during the next two months and there may be no significant change in minimum temperatures over the rest of the country. Light rain may also be seen in Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh and Chhattisgarh between January 1-3.

From New Year’s Eve i.e. the evening of 31st December till the beginning of the new year on 1st January, many states including the capital Delhi NCR will be wrapped in a blanket of dense fog.

The Meteorological Department has issued a red alert of fog on Sunday (31 December) morning. According to this, due to dense fog in the country’s capital Delhi and its adjoining areas on the occasion of New Year, there is going to be a major impact on traffic. Along with road traffic, rail and air services will also be affected. 

Visibility will be reduced due to dense fog
According to the Meteorological Department, dense fog will start in Delhi, Punjab and Haryana from the evening of 31st December and will last till the morning of 1st January. . Due to this, visibility will be reduced due to which traffic will be affected.
Dense fog has been prevailing in Delhi and its adjoining states for the last few days. Apart from this, there is a continuous decrease in temperature also. 

Double blow of cold and pollution in Delhi
According to the Meteorological Department, the effect of fog is being seen all over North India. Because of this people are facing many types of difficulties. At the same time, the country’s capital Delhi and surrounding areas are experiencing severe cold. Visibility has become zero in many places. On one hand, Delhi is in trouble due to pollution and on the other hand, severe cold and fog have made people’s lives difficult.

There will be severe cold for a week
According to the Meteorological Department, for the next 7 days, the minimum temperature of Delhi will be between 7 to 11 degrees Celsius and the maximum temperature will be between 18 to 20 degrees Celsius. There will be fog in the capital throughout the week. Because of this it is going to be very cold.

How will be the weather condition across the country?

According to the forecast of the Meteorological Department, there is a possibility of light rain at some places in Tamil Nadu and one or two places in Southern Kerala and North-East India. Very dense fog may prevail over many places in Punjab, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh, parts of North Rajasthan and Bihar. Apart from this, there is a possibility of dense fog in Western Himalayas, parts of Jharkhand, Odisha and Northeast India. That is, while there will be severe cold in North and North-East India, there may also be light rain in South India.

Haryana & Punjab Weather Today:The pain of winter is going to torment more in Haryana. According to the Meteorological Department, cold web situation will continue in the state for 7 days. Along with this, till January 5, the minimum temperature is expected to be 6 to 7 degrees Celsius and the maximum temperature is expected to be 17 to 19 degrees Celsius. If we talk about Punjab, it was the coldest of the season on Saturday. A drop of up to 3 degrees Celsius was recorded in the day temperature. 

Orange alert issued in 42 cities of Haryana
Meteorological department has issued orange alert of fog in 42 cities of Haryana. Along with this, there are some cities which have been put on yellow alert. Due to western disturbance it will be cloudy in the morning. The cities where Orange and Yellow alerts have been issued. These include Sonipat, Gohana, Hisar, Karnal, Panipat, Kaithal, Sirsa, Ambala, Panchkula, Kalayat, Dabwali, Ratia, Jagadhri, Panchkula, Jind, Tohana, Narnaund, Ellenabad, Samalkha, Ganaur, Gharaunda, Narayangarh, Bapauli, Julana, Israna. There is a possibility of dense fog in cities. In view of the cold wave and cold day conditions, the Meteorological Department issued a fog alert thrice in 10 hours.

Red alert in 11 districts of Punjab
While red alert has been issued in 11 districts of Punjab, orange alert of fog has been issued for the remaining districts. Orange alert has been issued from 1 to 3 January. The operation of 24 trains was affected due to fog on Saturday. Trains ran late by 2 to 10 hours, apart from this, 7 flights also ran late. Due to fog, visibility was reduced to zero in Bathinda and Amritsar, while visibility in Patiala was 25 meters. According to the Meteorological Department, the weather is going to remain dry in Punjab till January 5. Due to which the severity of cold is also going to increase.
